Christmas
In the heart of Copenhagen, Folkekirken for Internationals gathers to enjoy the joyful spirit of Christmas – a season that calls upon us to experience the profound promised love found in the Christmas Gospel.
The preparation for Christmas begins on Friday before the first Sunday of Advent. We meet for glögg (Christmas punch) and æbleskiver (dough balls) at Vesterbros Torv, where the Christmas lights are lit and Vesterbro Gospel Choir sings us warm and hopeful.
As we move through the time of Advent, it becomes apparent that Christmas is much more than decorations and twinkling lights – it is a chance to connect with one another and with God.
In our contemporary context, where life can often feel fast-paced and disconnected, we aim to create a welcoming space where individuals from all walks of life can come together to celebrate the hope and love embodied in the story of Christ’s birth.
We acknowledge the diverse backgrounds of our community, embracing both lifelong Christians and those seeking answers to life’s big questions without having been much to church. Through heartfelt services, carols that resonate with joy, children and family services and shared moments of reflection, we strive to make the message of Christmas relevant for everyone. Traditions are a big part of that, and if there is a tradition you particularly miss, we will aim to incorporate it.
Folkekirken for Internationals hopes to provide a sanctuary for those wishing to experience the warmth of fellowship and the comfort of God’s love during this special time. We invite everyone to partake in our celebrations, knowing that together we can create a sense of belonging and purpose. Join us during the Christmas season as we explore the meaning of our faith, celebrate the miracle of life and spread the good news of love that is meant for everyone.
